Project Description:
Pine Crest School is a private educational facility having two Campuses: Grades K-8 in Boca Raton, FL and Grades K-12 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. MGM was awarded a Design-Build Project to convert an existing Reading Room in their Library to a completely different approach to learning; a new high-tech “I-Lab”. The “I” stands for Innovation and the purpose of the room is to give the children the opportunity of a “hands on approach” using: large, mobile whiteboards to facilitate idea sharing; 3D printers, software, and electronics; crafts, textiles, and sewing machines; tools and hardware, such as laser cutters and drill presses; and robotics equipment. Work included: A compressed construction schedule to be completed while the School was out of session; complete plumbing/electrical rework of the space to address the equipment to be used in the Lab; sound attenuation in the walls to minimize impact to the Library; revised flooring; saw-cutting and installation of a large store-front window at the exterior wall; custom cabinets; write-on walls.
